QECO Recognition
Each course (when taken for academic credit) is recognized as a half course by QECO. However, there are always exceptions. Please write to QECO for a personal assessment at: 1300 Yonge St., 2nd Floor, Toronto, Ontario M4T 1X3.
Please request this information well in advance of enrollment date for a particular course.
OSSTF Certification Board Update
OSSTF informed ETFO on April 18, 2005 that the OSSTF Certification Board will no longer accept ETFO Credit Courses for upgrading purposes as of February 15, 2005. All previously approved courses will be honoured, however, courses not approved will no longer be accepted. Questions from OSSTF members should be directed to the OSSTF Office at 416-751-8300.
Where a Canadian university deems it appropriate, Drake credit for the ETFO credit may be acceptable for transfer. Each university has its own regulations in this regard and each participant is encouraged to investigate the matter of transfer credit with the university concerned before registering for any course. Course numbers and descriptions are available through Melanie McClelland at the ETFO Provincial Office.
Is there a limit on how many courses may be taken?
(New as of August 16, 2006)
Spring Session – January 1 – April 30 – no limit on number of courses
Fall Session – September 1 – December 31 – no limit on number of courses
Summer Session – May 1 – August 31 – no limit on number of courses
Please note that the session is determined by the ending date of the course (not the beginning date).
The Drake grading system is different than Ontario universities. Because of this, the mark from Drake is not directly transferable in the calculations of grade averages. Participants should check with QECO in order to determine the mark required in particular courses.
ETFO Credit Courses are accredited Education half-courses from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The courses are not Additional Qualifications courses for Ontario College of Teacher purposes.
For more information on Credit Courses, please contact Melanie McClelland, mmcclelland@etfo.org, at the provincial office: 416-962-3836 or 1-888-838-3836.
