Teachers can use ETFO Credit Courses to help them increase their qualifications and improve their salary grid placement. Each ETFO Credit Course counts as a half-credit towards possible higher grid placement.*
When teachers begin their careers, they are placed in a category by the Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario (QECO). Qualifications, not experience, determines where a teacher is placed initially on the salary grid. QECO is an organization which is recognized by every school board in Ontario as the agency which provides objective evaluations of teacher qualifications for placement on the salary grid.

* ETFO Credit Courses are accredited university half-courses from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The courses are not Additional Qualifications courses for the purposes of the Ontario College of Teachers. The Drake grading system is different than that used by Ontario universities. Because of this, the mark from Drake is not directly transferable in the calculations of grade averages. Participants should check with QECO to determine the mark required in particular courses. We encourage teachers to get an assessment done by QECO to ensure that the ETFO Credit Courses will meet the requirements of their particular situations.
